Moisturizers

Moisturizers include lotions, gels, creams, balms and ointments designed to reduce moisture loss and improve the feel of dry, tight or rough skin. Common ingredients include glycerin, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, mineral oil, petrolatum, shea butter and plant oils, while fragrance-free options may suit sensitive skin. Light lotions and gels can feel comfortable on oily or combination skin, while creams and ointments generally provide richer moisture for very dry areas. Apply moisturizer while the skin is still slightly damp after washing and reapply when dryness returns. Dermatologists recommend fragrance-free products for dry, sensitive skin and note that creams and ointments usually provide more moisture than lotions.
