Soothing creams are rich moisturisers designed for skin that feels dry, tight, sensitive or uncomfortable. They may contain glycerin, hyaluronic acid, dimethicone, petrolatum, shea butter or other ingredients that help retain moisture and support a softer, more comfortable skin feel.
Choose a fragrance-free cream when the skin is easily irritated, as “unscented” products can still contain fragrance-masking ingredients. Apply after gentle cleansing while the skin is slightly damp, and introduce new products one at a time. Cosmetic soothing creams do not treat infections or unexplained rashes; persistent burning, swelling, spreading redness or broken skin should be professionally assessed.
